Do I Have to Leave Anything to My Adult Children?

Louisiana recently abolished forced heirship, except as to children who are twenty-three years of age or younger, or who, because of mental incapacity or physical infirmity, are permanently incapable of taking care of their persons or administering their estates. If there is one forced heir, he or she must inherit one-fourth of the decedent's property. If there are two or more forced heirs at the time of death, they must inherit one-half of the property.
