Can I Leave Out Just One of My Children?

It is wise to avoid provisions which are likely to be ruled invalid or to cause a challenge from neglected heirs. If you seek to totally disinherit a child, say so unequivocally in your will. You should be aware that dispositions which appear to be favoritism may cause challenges to the will or, just as damaging, lasting ill feelings. If you anticipate problems of this nature, avoid creating circumstances which will invite disputes. Leave specific, discrete items or properties or amounts to each heir, and refrain from leaving feuding siblings as co-owners of one business or one piece of property.
